FULL CIRCLE
Celebrating 20 years making art jewellery
Work by Linda Hughes, Sim Luttin and Katrina Tyler
There are milestones in life worth celebrating, and 2019 marks twenty. years since the Melbourne-based jewellery artists met in the RMIT Gold and Silversmithing studio. Two decades on, their studio practices are thriving, and they remain close friends and metalsmithing confidants.
Since 1999, the work of each maker has evolved and each artist has taken a unique creative path. All three artists are recognised nationally and internationally for their work and for creating intimate and distinct objects and art jewellery that respond to their immediate environment.
The trio presents ‘Full Circle’, three new collections of art objects and photography, featuring installations of current and previous work including artist sketches and inspiration. Integrated into the exhibition are photographs by Australian artist Janelle Low, who photographed the artists and their work in the urban laneways of Melbourne.
‘Full Circle’ holds an additional layer of significance for the artists: Sofitel Melbourne on Collins was the first space that Linda, Sim and Katrina exhibited work in a large group exhibition as undergraduate students. Twenty years on, it is such a privilege to present this show together at the hotel.
