New Works - Melbourne Art Fair Project Room 2010

As part of Melbourne Art Fair 2010, Sofitel Melbourne On Collins in association with Melbourne Art Fair was pleased to present an Melbourne Art Fair Project Room of works by Emily Ferretti.

Presented in Sofi's Lounge, this exhibition profiled new works by Melbourne painter Emily Ferretti, an emerging artist whose subtle scenes of domestic life and objects are beautifully rendered in oil on linen.

Artist Statement:

These paintings investigate the art of the everyday, by rendering domestic objects and scenes with equal measure of fantasy and documentary.

The chosen subjects are from everyday life and leisure such as basketball nets, lawn sprinklers, tree houses, woven baskets, tree ferns and table tennis tables, as seen in my most recent solo exhibition.

On stark backgrounds, paint is applied subtly and with a delicate palette, giving the work a sense of dissolve and space. The paintings convey a draughtsmanship quality mixed with a more intuitive freedom. This effect heightens the daydream-like ambiguity between the reality of the everyday and the whimsical flights of imagination.
