This collection represents the first major photographic exhibition in Australia featuring images of Timor-Leste by an East Timorese photographer.
The portraits reveal the tenacity and vision of the people who are developing a new nation. By choice or circumstance these individuals have taken on roles to contribute to their families, communities and country. This collection acknowledges the talent and dedication that is creating Timor’s future.
The collection of landscapes echoes the vitality and tenacity of the East Timorese. The land has maintained its beauty despite an overwhelming history.
East Timorese born photographer Jorge de Araujo is active around social and cultural issues, using art to inspire social change. Formally qualified in Community Cultural Development, his style combines and compliments corporate assignments, lifestyle images and effective storytelling.
